Protected escape route corridor to ground floor - Wandsworth

Loft conversion
This development is a loft conversion to make a two storey property become three storeys. For a long time this type of development has required a corridor being built on the ground floor. As ODPM now agrees, door closers are taken out or wedged open and quite frankly become redundant. We feel that ground floor sprinklers with an A.O.V on the ground floor and a positive air pressure on the first floor landing areas to disperse any smoke is a far superior method of protection and one that a majority of people want in these times of open plan living.
Proposal - Ground floor sprinkler protection with an A.O.V
Alternatives - 30 min fire resistant corridor on ground floor.
Outcome - Design and install a domestic fire sprinkler to BS9251: 2005, providing protection to ground floor incorporating an A.O.V to supplement the argument that a slow smouldering fire on the ground floor could supply enough smoke to hinder an escape.
Please remember that guidelines on this example vary from one region to another.
